It’s a holiday weekend here in the U.S., so I’m grabbing a little R&R. There’s no regular post today, but I did want to wish you all a Happy Labor Day! Have fun and stay safe!
This holiday is always a little sad for me because it marks the end of summer. Now begins the long slog toward winter and shorter, darker days. I’m not a fan of the dark days, so it’s with regret that I say farewell to summer.
On the other hand, even though I’m long out of school, I still think of this time of year as the time to begin anew. Even more than New Year’s, this has always been the time of year for me to start over. Time to go buy some fresh, clean notebooks, meet new people, and stretch myself creatively. It’s time to try a new genre or form, commit to finishing projects that have sat neglected for too long, and commit to faithful participation in my writer’s group and book club.
I may no longer carry a Trapper Keeper, but I still get that back-to-school feeling that everything is new and anything is possible.
Those fresh breezes of fall may signal that winter is coming, but for me they also breathe new life into my work and purpose. I hope they do the same for you!
