Avenging Fate eBook Releases September 12th!

The big news this month is that Avenging Fate releases as an eBook on September 12th. (The print release will be November 7th, so stay tuned.)

This is the second book in the Threads of the Moirae series, following Broken Fate.

About Avenging Fate:

Still reeling after killing the man she loved, Atropos turns her attention to the twin tasks of avenging his death and freeing humanity from the deadly grip of the Keres. When she sets out on a murderous mission to retrieve her shears, her only aide is her temperamental ex-boyfriend, Ares. He is fickle at best, traitorous at worst, and assistance from him may be worse than none at all.

Along the way, she allies with a group of powerful supernaturals and learns that the crimes of the gods are more twisted and far-reaching than she realized. What begins as a quest for vengeance becomes a journey through betrayal, loss, love, and hope. It ignites a war that will pit Atropos against the gods in a battle for the freedom of humanity.

You can order it on Amazon or from your preferred eBook retailer.

Broken Fate Nominated for Summer Indie Book Awards

The other big news this month is that Broken Fate has been nominated for the Summer Indie Book Awards.

Nominations came from readers and fans, so I do not know whom to thank for the nomination, but if you're reading this, THANK YOU!

Voting is open until September 11th, so if you've read Broken Fate and would like to vote, I'd really appreciate it.

(Note that CTRL-F is your friend here. The list of nominees is super long, so make things easy by searching for "Jennifer Derrick" or "Broken Fate.")

Avenging Fate Release Party: September 9th, 2016

The big release party for Avenging Fate will be Friday, September 9th, from 7 – 9 PM Eastern time. It will be held on Facebook and everyone is invited to attend.

Avenging Fate Release Party!

Note that Sandy Goldsworthy’s new release, Afterlife, will also be celebrated at the party. If you’re a fan of her work, that’s even more reason to attend! We’ll both be taking questions and chatting with readers, so if you’ve ever wanted to ask us something, now’s your chance.

There will be games and giveaways of lots of free loot. Unfortunately, you’ll have to bring your own cake, but such are the limitations of online parties!

Author Q&A

I'm going to try to include an author Q&A in most of my newsletters. If you want to ask me a question, you can feel free to contact me through my website. Sometimes I may ask another author to answer a question, just to get a different perspective. This month's question is:

What advice would you give to your younger self?

I would tell myself that writing is a viable career option. When I was in school, I loved to write but other than journalism, no one really thought of it as a viable career path. That's definitely not the case but I lost a lot of years thinking, "You can't make a living with that, so do something practical."

Sure, you might not make a fortune with novels, but freelancing or working a regular job as a technical, marketing or corporate writer is certainly an option. As is more creative work like writing for video games or RPG's, writing lyrics, or poetry for greeting cards, etc. There are so many things that need words that it's almost impossible not to make a living as a writer, as long as you're willing to do the work.

New Release I'm Most Excited About

I loved Lani Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, so I got excited when I heard she had a new novel coming out.

The official description is cryptic, but refers to the aftermath of a war between gods and men, a mythic hero with blood on his hands, and a young librarian. Color me intrigued.

Newsletter Exclusive Giveaway

All subscribers to my newsletters are automatically entered into a giveaway for a $5.00 USD Amazon.com gift card. You don't have to do anything!

How it works: All subscribers will be assigned a number and then I'll use Random.org to choose a winning number. The drawing will be held on July 29th, 2016 and I'll notify the winner as soon as possible. If, for whatever reason, the winner doesn't want their prize or I cannot contact them through a valid email address, I will draw again.

(You must have a valid email address to receive the prize and note that while international winners are welcome, the card will be in US dollars.)

The winner will be posted in the next newsletter. Good luck!

Last issue's winner was S. Munn! Congratulations!
