Library Haul and Reading List 5/22/15

Library Stack 5/22/15

We got the sad news today that our library will be closing for renovations beginning later in the summer. They’ll be closed for six months! The renovations are much needed and it will be great once done, but I don’t know what I’m going to do for books. The next closest branch is 30 minutes away and that’s kind of far to go on any kind of regular basis. I can already feel the withdrawal symptoms starting. Bummer.

  • Challenger Deep, by Neal Shusterman. This is a YA novel about mental illness. I’m reserving judgment on it because I understand that it’s one of those books where the reader often doesn’t know what’s going on and whether the narrator is telling the truth or not. I’m not usually a fan of those types of books, but I’m giving this one a try because I enjoy a lot of Shusterman’s other work.
  • The Heir, by Kiera Cass. This is a prequel to Cass’s “The Selection” series. I enjoyed the series, so it will be interesting to see “where it all began.”
  • Eighteen Acres, by Nicolle Wallace. As a big fan of the TV show, “The West Wing,” I decided to check out this soapy story of three powerful women who work in/around the White House. It’s supposed to be the all-female version of West Wing.
  • The One Page Financial Plan, by Carl Richards. (Not pictured as I borrowed the e-book.) I got this one to satisfy my inner personal finance nerd. I’m wondering if the author can simplify finance enough to get people to take responsibility for their futures instead of sticking their heads in the sand and hoping for the best.
