Library Haul & Reading List 10/23/15

This week’s list is all YA. There are a ton of good young adult books coming out this fall and they’re coming in faster than I can read them! I’m particularly interested in Vengeance Road as it’s a western, which is a rarity. In other news, the print version of Broken Fate is now available for pre-order on Amazon and I have an Amazon Author page now, too! Stop by for a visit sometime.

  • Vengeance Road, by Erin Bowman. This should be an interesting tale. There aren’t too many westerns written anymore, especially not in the YA genre. I have a special place in my heart for westerns because my uncle loved them and taught me to appreciate them. There just aren’t many new ones to read these days, so I look forward to this offering. (FYI, the last good YA western that I read was The Thirteenth Child series by Patricia Wrede. If you’re into westerns and magic, I can highly recommend it.)
  • Zeroes, by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, and Deborah Biancotti. The draw of this title is Scott Westerfeld. I usually enjoy his books so the fact that he was the lead author put it on my radar. It’s a tale of kids who have superpowers, but they aren’t your typical powers like bulletproof chests and the ability to stop a speeding train. They’re more subtle mental powers.
  • Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer, by Rick Riordan. This one is similar to his earlier Percy Jackson series, except this is the beginning of a series based on Norse mythology. I’m interested because I always enjoyed the Norse myths, but I’m afraid it might be a pale imitation of Percy Jackson. We’ll see.
