The big news this week is that Broken Fate is nominated for the Summer Indie Book Awards in the young adult category. Fans and readers nominated the books for these awards and I have no idea who nominated me! However, if you’re out there reading this, know that I’m extremely grateful. Voting begins September 1st and I’ll post the link at that point. If any of you are inclined to vote for me, I’d really appreciate it.
On to the reading list…
- The Hike, by Drew Magary. This book just sounded so freaky, I had to check it out. (And that cover is awesome!) A suburban dad goes out on a hike in the woods behind his hotel while on a business trip. Things get really weird out there and he encounters all kinds of creatures (including a profane crustacean, which might make the book worthwhile on its own) and objects that thwart his efforts to return to his world and family. It sounds like it’s part fantasy and part life-lesson about the importance of appreciating what you have.
- Betrayals, by Kelley Armstrong. This is the fourth book in Armstrong’s Cainsville series, which mixes fae mythology with modern-day characters. The books are part thriller, part mystery, part romance, and part fantasy. I’ve enjoyed the previous three, so I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes next. I don’t know if this is the last one or not. I kind of hope not.
