Halloween is almost upon us! Oddly, I’m not reading anything scary or thrilling this weekend. I usually try to, but what came in at the library was a fairy tale and Bridget Jones. That’s okay, these both look like easy-breezy reads which I need since NaNoWriMo starts next Tuesday! I’m in a frenzy making some freezer meals, cleaning, and getting everything squared away so that I can enjoy the madness all month. Like last year, I’m going to try to post weekly updates to track progress and other fun things. Hopefully I’ll have time for that, anyway.
Also note that with October rolling to a close, these are the final days to enter Clean Teen Publishing’s Halloween giveaway. You have a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card and it’s open to international participants! If you haven’t entered, time’s running out.
The Reading List
Furthermore, by Tahereh Mafi. This sounds more like middle grade than the YA that’s it’s billed as. It’s a fairy tale where a young girl searches for her father through the dangerous, magical, and mythical land of Furthermore. There’s adventure, magic, love, loss, and friendships formed along the way. It sounds like Alice in Wonderland crossed with threads from just about every other fairy tale ever written. The cover is gorgeous, though, and it was enough to get me to check it out.
Bridget Jones’ Baby: The Diaries, by Helen Fielding. This is the Bridget Jones book that mirrors the recently released movie. Although this is book 4 in the series, it actually jumps back in time from the last book. Book 3 was about Bridget in middle age, after the death of her husband. This book looks back at the time when she was pregnant but didn’t know who the father was. I hope it has the charm of the first two books because book 3 was kind of a downer.
