Weekly News Update & Reading List: Friday the 13th Edition

If you’re superstitious, this is the week to take Friday the 13th off and stay in bed with a good book. Of course, any day is a day to stay in bed with a good book. I could spend my whole life in bed with books, but then I wouldn’t be able to write books. Speaking of which…

The big news this week is that Hunted Fate releases in paperback on Tuesday, 10/17/17! Yay! It seems like it’s taken forever (even though it’s taken no longer than any of the others, this summer was just a bizarre time warp), but it’s finally here. Pre-orders are available on all the big book sites, if you’re interested.

I love it when Friday the 13th falls in October. The month is already full of creepy stuff and its like getting an extra mini-Halloween in the middle of the month. It’s an excuse to drag out all my horror-themed board games, make black cat cupcakes, and read all the creepy books I can stand. That said, here are a few of my favorite scary/creepy/weird books for your Friday the 13th:

  • The Amityville Horror
  • The Haunting of Hill House
  • Perfume, The Story of a Murderer (if you can get the movie, it’s awesome, as well)
  • The Ruins
  • The Graveyard Book
  • Cirque du Freak
  • Dracula
  • Darkfever (and the whole Fever series)
  • The Night Circus
  • Discovery of Witches
  • The Thirteenth Tale
  • The Passage

Have fun!

Dear Fahrenheit 451: A Librarian’s Love Letters and Break-Up Notes to the Books in Her Lifeby Annie Spence. This is a small book of “letters” written by a librarian to the books she’s loved, lost, and disliked. It’s humorous and reflects not just on books, but on how books inform our lives and make us into the people we become. And it’s brilliantly funny!
