I believe that giving back to the world is important and I enjoy doing so. Many of my efforts focus on environmental and animal conservation. There’s a huge soft spot in my heart for animals and nature. I feel like they’ve gotten the short end of the stick, so to speak, as humans have taken over their habitats and food sources. Plants and animals don’t have a voice to argue for their needs, so I try to help out where I can.
I’m also very aware of the suffering that goes on among domestic animals. Everything from puppy mills, to abuse, to neglect hurts my heart. I would adopt a hundred dogs and cats if I could. As that’s not an option, I do what I can for the local shelters. Sometimes that’s volunteering and other times, like now, it’s offering financial help.
From now until further notice, I’m giving 100% of my book sale profits (that’s the money remaining after my publisher takes their cut, the taxman gets his money, and I cover expenses) to the Wake County Animal Center. This applies to ebooks, print, and audio editions and to the sales of all of my books, not just those pictured below. (Graphics can only hold so much and still be readable, after all.)
I’ve adopted two wonderful friends from this shelter and there are many more who need help. My first adoption became the model for Maggie in the Threads of the Moirae books. Sadly she’s since passed away, but I like to think she lives on in my writing.
While I’m certain not everyone will agree with my choice of charity, just know that sales of my books go to help some very deserving animals. This shelter even serves hamsters, rabbits, and birds! (And if you’re tempted to pirate my books, think of the animals you’re cheating!)
